Pick, Pie and a Pint
Teams of volunteers are encouraged to help keep our streets clean by joining in a litter pick around the town. Each team will be given a location close to the town center and will need a team leader who is responsible for collecting and distributing the equipment.
Once the session has finished, each volunteer will receive a ticket which they can exchange at The Hole in the Wall for a FREE pie and a pint. A great way to start the weekend!
Date: Friday March 2nd
Time: 4:00 - 5:30pm (meet at The Hole in the Wall)
Volunteers: Max 50 per session
Info: Soft drinks, a healthy and vegetarian option are available. Please could you advise if you have any special dietary requirements.

County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust (CDDFT) are piloting a therapeutic volunteer scheme which aims to support dementia patients at Darlington Memorial Hospital.
The role of the therapeutic volunteers is to help stimulate and to make the patients’ hospital stay as comfortable as possible, by participating and interacting with the patients' through an array of activities. The CDDFT in volunteering to support the following activities with the patients’;
- Reminiscing – through music, photographs, memory boxes
- Talking and listening – have informal chats over a cup of tea
- Play games – cards, dominoes and jigsaws
Time: Flexible – minimum of one hour a week
Location: Darlington Memorial Hospital, Hollyhurst Road, Darlington, DL3 6HX
Requirements: Volunteers must undergo a mandatory enhanced DBS check
All volunteers must attend Trust corporate induction and have an informal chat to ensure they understand their role and responsibilities. In addition volunteers will undertake the specific therapeutic volunteer training.

Kings Food Store
Located at the Kings Food Bank on Whessoe Road, Darlington, the Food Store Network is a community wide project which provides emergency resources for anyone in the Darlington borough who has found themselves unable to provide food for themselves or their families.
The volunteer sessions involve helping the Food Store with client administration, packing food bags and giving these out to clients.
Date: Opportunities are available on a Wednesday and Friday.
Time: Volunteering sessions are available 9am-5pm, 9:30-3:30pm, 9:30-12:30pm, 12:30-3:30pm.

Launched in September 2013, Busy Readers trains volunteers to listen to children read in local primary schools. We make it easy as possible for volunteers to join the scheme, by providing training and DBS checks. For further information including participating school,please refer to: Busy Readers Information
